Article Review - Leadership: the Management of Meaning

Introduction

This brief discussion will attempt to reflect on this week's Learning Resources and on my own experience as a leader, and describe an instance in which my leadership was not successful because I simply told rather than shared. In order to do so adequately, the discussion will be integrated with an analysis of an article selected and shed light on the clarity and organization of the article in addition to a consideration of the manner in which the author has presented original ideas to the reader. The discussion will also highlight how and where the author incorporates outside evidence, if is it used at the beginning of the article to provide background on a topic, if it is used to support a specific point in the author's arguments and if it is used to present an idea and then offer an original critique of that idea or something else. The discussion will consider how the author used citing, referencing, quoting and paraphrasing in the article along with an analysis f how I know this article is peer-reviewed and generally acceptable for citing and referencing in university work. I will conclude by offering a response to the discussion question and a brief analysis of the article identified.

The article in selected for the discussion is Leadership: the management of meaning, by Linda Smircich and Gareth Morgan (Smircich & Morgan, 1982).
