Abstract

The articles explain in detail that obesity in nurses has become a major problem for America which is increasing day by day. It is also one of the leading health problems in the world. The secondary data method is used as a research methodology which used the survey data from 2103 female nurses. Obesity among the nurses was analyzed in terms of Body Mass Index. The data analysis showed that around 55% of the sample was over-weight. The article concluded on the pint that there is a strong need to limit adverse work schedules: similarly, there is a strong need that the nurses should control their access to healthy food.

Literature Review

The article also shed light on the fact that nursing can be seen as human action developed in the social context, which is influenced by various sources, resulting in a reciprocal action between the worker and the means of production, gradually limited by conditions socially established, and the human as product and producer of the society to which it belongs. As for occupational stress, one realizes also an extension of the vagueness of the concept of stress (Han, Trinkoff, Storr, & Geiger-Brown 2011). Considering a complex subject, occupational stress is not a new phenomenon, but a new field of study that is stressed due to the emergence of diseases that were linked to work stress, such as hypertension, ulcers and other implications. The nurses who are obese are likely to be end up as an obese adult. Thus they are more prone to heart diseases, diabetes, and other such complexities. The study has shown that nurses who became obese before they turn 2 were more likely to be affected by health problems. The research has shown that obesity is attributable for the shorter lifespan for such nurses. This has also been proven that this will be the first generation that will be having much shorter lifespan as compared to their parents. There are many factors that have been attributed to obesity among nurses. The most probable reason for obesity is that both of the parents are obese. So genetics do play its role in the obesity of the nurses. The family environment and psychological factors are other reasons. The lifestyle of today has also not helped as far as the healthy upbringing of the nurses is concerned.
