Kathryn Smith Higuchi, Nancy Edwards, Barbara L Davies, Tazim Virani, and Jenny Ploeg (2011), Implementation of clinical guidelines for adults with asthma and diabetes: a three-year follow-up evaluation of nursing care, Journal of Clinical Nursing, vol. 20, pp. 1329-1338

Method

The method used in the research is suitable and the method has been approved by the University Research Ethics Board. The study can now be carried out according to the ethical guidelines. After the approval, the researchers are able to work with the research liaison nurse for the assortment of relevant data. The data was collected up to three years according to the provided guidelines. The nurses of two healthcare organizations worked in collaboration with the researchers so that it can become easy to get the substantial data. Different onsite trainings were also organized for the nurses who were given the task of data collection so that they can be able to collect the data which can be useful accurate for the research work.

Research design and tradition The design of the research has indicated that the researchers are interested in two healthcare organizations. According to a study, it is important to find out the continuation of the successful execution of the guidelines (Davies et al. 2007). Improvement was shown by the nurses in two sites which were following Adult Asthma Care Best Practice Guideline and Reducing Foot Complications for People with Diabetes Best Practice Guideline. It is also clear from another research that the changes in organization and staffing are helpful in providing the continuation to the guidelines (Maher et al. 2010). The main design of the study focuses on in finding the level of implementation of care according to the provided guidelines and the contextual and organizational changes that took place in three years.

Sample and setting The sample was dependent on different proportions. Those patients were selected for the study that were suffering from the problem of asthma and were admitted in the hospital in the winter season. The other group of the patients was made with the people who were adults and they were also suffering from type 1 or type 2 diabetics.

Data collection Training sessions were organized for precise data collection and a review of audits was presented to the nurses. The tools that were introduced in the review of chart audit were used in the collection of data.
