Eyes on The Street

Research Design

The article “Eyes on the street”, is about a program launched by the Tennessee's Highway Police in 1995 to counter and reduce the number of fatal accidents, crashes, vandalism of public property by alcohol consumed drivers or drunk drivers by using cellular phones. This article is work of three Assistant Professors from School of Policy and Management Florida on crime and delinquency. This is a primary research conducted with the help of date received from the highway police authorities based on crashes, deaths and injuries etc. The research design is both qualitative and quantitative as data is collected by a longitudinal research from the year 1995 to 1997 or 132 months with constant measurement of the similar and comparable data over the period of time (Menard, 1991:4). Time series analysis or the inner structure of data was used and compared to assess the factors of behavioral change. The time series analysis works on frequency method or time method, in this research time method is used which includes cross correlation and auto correlation. Further is can be described by using non linear and linear (Menard, 1991).

Type of Data Used

The type of data used in this research is secondary as it was collected from the United States official authority of Highway Administration, not by the researchers themselves. The data collected to get correct results are compared with time series analysis as stated by (Cook and Campbell) is the best for taking out these types of results with behavioral impact. The data was collected on a monthly basis so more accurate results are drawn and compared on month wise to see a decline in drunken accidents on Tennessee Highways. The secondary data used and analyzed to get results on the emergency cellular phone program showed positive results. ...
