Introduction

The paper is the critical analysis of an article by Mixer (2011), written by him on the research of culture care theory published in Online Journal Of Nursing. The title “Use of the Culture Care Theory to Discover Nursing Faculty Care Expressions, Patterns, and Practices Related to Teaching Culture Care “defines implementation of culture care theory for nursing faculty care practice and its relation to teaching these values.

Abstract

The abstract clearly summarized the main concepts of the report that the aim of this article is ethno nursing research and to know about nursing faculty care practices to help support in teaching students in providing care in urban universities and rural universities of United States. In this research, 27 American faculties has participated. It defined,

Faculty care associated with religious values and beliefs.

Faculty taught culture care.

Faculty care provided to nursing students.

Faculty care is necessary for their well-being.

This research applies Leininger's theory of culture care and it clearly defined the practice of nursing associated with teaching culture care and nursing education.

Introduction and Theoretical framework of article

The use of theoretical framework was discussed at large. It defined that the transcultural nursing education is nessecary in meeting the health requirements of different communities. People in community belong to different ethnicity, race, class, language, culture, and sexual orientation. People who are ethnic, non-native, culture are at risk of being disempowered and disadvantaged in the society. They may get inequitable access to health care and nursing services. A critical transcultural approach of nursing practice facilitates equality of access to health care opportunities to all people. When nursing practitioners are not properly trained to deliver health services, in a critical transcultural system, monoculturalism prevails and prevents the delivery of effective and appropriate health care and nursing care services. Since the nursing care is an essential service, which is the right of all the citizens regardless of culture, religion, language or ethnicity. The nursing services should not be affected by the socio-cultural differences, which can affect the availability of services to the people of country. There should be no barriers to access to nursing or other health services in the community. He stated that the nurses are facing the challenges of cultural diversity in nursing practice. The transcultural nursing knowledge and research supports advance transcultural nursing practice.

This defined that the importance of teaching culture care in colleges and schools of nursing. The literature review provided a sound basis for the new study and the key concepts adequately defined conceptually that the purpose of this study is:

To discover and evaluate the care practices that faculty of nursing uses when teaching transculture care in universities. The aim is to discover care that helped in teaching students to give transcultural care. It describes the ways in which teaching culture care may impact the health and well being of nursing faculty.
