This paper intends to critique on the article 'Have Women Become More Willing to Accept Obstetric Interventions and Does This Relate to Mode of Birth? Data from a Prospective Study' written by Josephine M. Green and Helen A. Baston. The main focus of this paper is to analyze the researxh areas, such as target population, sample size, research methods etc. Depending on the outcome of the study, recommendations are also highlighted in this paper for this research article.
Discussion
Purpose of the Study
The purpose of the study is to determine the relationship between willingness to agree for obstetric interventions and mode of birth. It is witnessed that the concern regarding the rising rate of caesarean section has been increasing. Further, the data collected is compared with the study that was conducted in 1987 (Green and Baston, 2007).
Target Population
The target population for this study are women who were 35-36 weeks pregnant, to know their opinion over the matter of caesarean section.
Sampling
For the purpose of this study 977 women were chosen in England from 8 maternity units. Their birth due date was in 2000 ranging from the dates between April to May.
Data Collection Method
Data will be collected through the postal questionnaires and also the secondary sources would be considered to analyze the data. Further, data collected from this study was compared to the parent study hat was conducted in 1987.
Confidentiality
At any time prior to the submission of this research project, the participant has the right to rescind permission to use their interview in the study. If this occurs, the research would not be used for the study, digitally recorded data would be erased and consent forms would be shredded. A replacement participant would be sought to complete the study using the sampling method described above. The researcher also has the respect for the confidentiality and intellectual property of the colleagues and the institute. In this study, the researcher has followed all the above mentioned standards and norms (Saunders, 2009).
Identify the type (descriptive, correlational, quasi-experimental, or experimental)
This type of this research is Quasi experimental, where the researcher does not have any treatment to the outcome. It is a pure experimental research.
Independent and dependent variables
The independent variables are cesarean section and obstetric intervention, Epidural and mode of birth while the dependent variables are willingness to accept obstetric intervention.
