Relationship between Democracy and Economic Development
Democracy can be defined as the form of Government in which everyone has equal rights. People have equal rights for the decisions which may affect their life. Democracy is measured on the basis of fairness and transparency of the procedures which affect the decisions of government officials. Economic Development can be defined as the continuous efforts sustained by the policy makers in order to communicate and promote the standard of living in a certain area (Inglehart, 2009, pp. 33). Economic development is a broad perspective, and it is related to the policy intervention in various areas include safety, competitiveness, health and other initiatives.
Relation between democracy and economic development
The main measure of democracy constituted by the indicator of political rights Inglehart (2009) "Political rights are rights to participate significantly to the political process. In democracy, it means the right for all adults to vote and stand for public office, and representatives elected have a decisive vote on public policy” (pp. 33). Democracy can be expressed as "The freedoms are the rights to free expression, to organize or demonstrate, and the rights to a certain degree of autonomy such as freedom of religion, education, (travel and other personal rights (Handelman, 2011, pp. 33). Although there is a positive relationship, between democracy and prosperity it is clear that there are no models convincing this theory. The development of such a theory remains a priority.
