Types of Art
Paintings
Excavation is oil on canvas painting done by Willem de Kooning in the 1950s. Kooning was born in Netherlands. After the World War 2, Kooning started painting abstract on the canvas along with a few other artists. Excavation is a form of contemporary art and one of the first color paintings done by Kooning after he took a break from colors due to some financial issues. The painting has all the elements a good form of art has. It has a depiction of women working in rice fields and the rough stretched lines show parts of bodies, such as jaws, nose, necks and jaws (Artic.edu, 2014).
Sculpture
Pieta by Michelangelo was made by a single piece of marble, for the cardinal of the Vatican City in 1498. It shows Virgin Mary holding the crucified Jesus, who is fully grown compared to the young mother shown. The entire sculpture is very finely detailed, even the tiny nail wounds on Jesus Christ's arms can be seen, while Mary is shown to be this young and fresh woman (Rome.info, 2014).
Architecture
Taj Mahal is a structure made of white marble by the great emperor Shah Jahan. It is a symbol of love and was built in memory of his deceased wife. The entire structure is decorated with various marble and crystal ornaments and also there is calligraphy on the walls inside and outside. This shows the importance of art, even in the times of the mogul reign and the variations with which the artwork has been done. It truly defines the meaning of art as it baffles everyone that comes across it (Agraindia.org.uk, 2014).
