This week's discussion is very interesting and it also highlights the importance changes in the early 20th century art. I think that the changes were substantial and frequent, but the major aspect of this change was in the form rather than the content. In order to portray this, I have selected the collage by Richard Hamilton named “Just What Is It That Makes Today's Homes So Different, So Appealing?” This collage is the first popular culture art, which has acquired the recognition as an icon. In this popular culture collage, the artist has depicted the significance of digital art. It can be identified by any viewer that this collage is made up of the several other images, but it holistically portrays the focus of the popular culture into material orientations (Kleiner, 2008).
The most significant depiction in this collage, which demonstrates the change in the form of the arts, is the depiction of nudity in the collage. Nudity in art is not a new or novel element of art. Thus far in this course, we have sufficiently seen and read about the elements of nudity in the art. The best example is the art of Michelangelo, in which the nude portrayal of religious thoughts was remarkably displayed. Similarly, in this collage the nudity is a significant element, but the change is present in the presentation of this nudity. In this collage, the focus of nudity is mainly comprised of the beauty of muscular bodies, which is certainly one of the most significant elements of the popular culture.
