ABSTRACT

In this research study the afro Caribbean and black Africans history and their issues have been discussed. Many social workers and the system of UK have tried to provide them the equal rights but they are still not getting equal treatment from the British society. In this research study the secondary qualitative has been used. The results have proved that the UK system and social workers have failed to provide the equal status to the black Africans.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

History of afro-Caribbean and Black African in Britain

The black African people are being settled in Britain more than 12th century. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the numbers of African people who settle in Britain have been increasing, and in Britain, a vast increasing population of afro Caribbean people can be seen in Britain (Yosso, 2002, 107). Now in the Britain society the afro Caribbean populations have been occupied a major chunk in the Britain society (Shyllon 2007 77). These people are struggling in mixing up with the British people redefining their identity in the British societies.

The afro Caribbean people came to Britain as slaves with the British Empire expansion. These people came on ships as slaves, and they were carrying different products with them. These products were tea, cotton, coffee, sugar etc, and these things were brought by them in London, Bristol, and in Liverpool ( Porteous 2008 40 ). There were some afro Caribbean people who did not bring the above mentioned products and they were brought as servants with naval officers, planters and military officers. They were supposed to be domestic servants for the aristocratic families (Utsey, 2009, 269).
