Approve Gambling to Help Fund Education in Texas
Introduction
Las Vegas is a beautiful city in the middle of nowhere. Its streets are filled with the colors, smells, tastes and appearances of the entire world. It was not always such. Much has been written about its interesting history. Today, it is a tourist hot spot for entertainment in all forms. It is famous for its sky reaching hotels, the beautiful architecture, round the clock service and its unmatched gambling. Revenue from the city of Las Vegas runs in the millions and its people are well provided for. The same cannot be said for the state of Texas. Known for cowboys, heat and its sheer size, the state is in trouble. It doesn't have lavish casinos like those in Nevada to bring in millions every year. Texas is suffering financially.
Budget cuts have appeared for every department, from health care to the police. Unfortunately, the education funds have suffered severely too. The very department responsible for preparing future leaders and workers is unable to flourish as it should. Teachers are being laid off. Facilities are being cut back , and in some parts, schools have even been forced to shut down. The state simply does not have the required funding. This could change over the coming years. Research has shown that the gambling industry is a viable option for Texas. It creates jobs directly and indirectly. It supports tourism from other states and even across international borders. The legalization of gambling can bring in millions of dollars annually. This money, in turn, can be distributed among the departments that need it most, namely, education. The only thing that needs to be done is convince the people of the state, who hold the power to legalize it.
