Introduction

Informal channels of communication (and rumor grapevine) seem to have become the preferred substitutes for slave Whose curiosity for information should be addressed. This is explained by the fact that the subordinates are not always given the opportunity to express their views and express their feelings about the information or statements made by the superiors or management. However, the grapevine and rumor stories are always threatened the achievement of organizational goals. For many years, has been the bane of how to solve the mystery of these informal channels of communication. Therefore, this study examined the effects of informal communication channels to the reaction of workers to management policies in two multi-national organizations in Lagos State, Nigeria.

The study adopted survey design research, using a common three hundred respondents from two multinational organizations. Tool used to collect data from respondents proprietary 36-item questionnaire with the tag "informal channels of communication in organizations Questionnaire (ICCOQ) with the reliability coefficient 0.81. Chi-square (x2) statistics were used to test the null hypothesis four stated in the studies at the 0:05 level of significance. The conclusion of the studies showed that vine and hearing stories significant influence management policies for the improvement and achievement of organizational goals in the two organizations to use for research (x2 cal = 55.06, p <0,05 ). The result showed that further linguistic and ethnic similarities influence the spread of rumors and stories of grapes (x2 cal = 161.93 p <0,05). In addition, survey results showed that the thematic importance of the subject so influenced the rate of flow of rumors and grapevine in the history of the organizations studied (x2 cal = 239.8, p <0,05). Thus, the results showed that the grapevine and rumor stories are always influenced by the reaction of the employees of policy in regard to the organization studied (x2 cal = 43.67, p <0,05) Based on the above findings, the study recommends that a message needs to be done bosssubordinate less formal. Thus, all other channels of communication such as organizational memos, board meetings, etc., must be functional so as to checkmate devastating effects of false rumors and grape history. In addition, management must make it a policy to representatives of all groups (layers) in the organization to meet at least quarterly to review the successes and failures of communication strategies to use.

Aims and objectives

Traditionally, the formal (down) was emphasized in the organizations. But there is plenty of evidence of research that, where only the direction of communication, problems abound. This assertion is supported by Lewis (1976), when he says, for an institutional linkage to perform its vital role in efficient transmission of information should come not only from management to employees, but also from staff management. Line and staff structures, the majority of units within each department of the organization is not very well written, and it has made effective communication elusive.
