Reflect on your organization or one with which you are familiar. Within a particular department or unit in this organization, identify a problem the staff is encountering.

My organization is Pocahontas Community Hospital. In the Cardiac & Respiratory Therapy department ensures that the individuals with lungs and heart problems are properly evaluated and diagnosed. However, there is a lack of equipments in the department. Initially, the equipment set up in the department was more than enough to serve the small community. However, there has been an increase in the population and an increase in the number of heart patients. This is the reason why it has became difficult to accommodate those limited equipments or the increasing number of patients.

Using Table 1 in the Meyer article as a guide, analyze the department or unit, identifying inputs, throughput, output, cycles of events, and negative feedback. Consider whether the problem you have selected relates to input, throughput, output, cycles of events, and/or negative feedback.

According to the Table 1 in the Meyer article (Meyer & O'Brien, 2010), the problem faced by the department is throughput. There is a strong need to incorporate more equipment and they must be advanced in order to provide effective and successful treatments to the patients.

Reflect on the organization's mission statement and values. In addition, consider how addressing this problem would uphold the mission and values, while improving the organizational culture and climate.

The mission of the organization is serving the patients with the top most standards of cost-effective, convenient and compassionate health care. Ensuring that the heart and lungs patients are properly treated in the Cardiac & Respiratory Therapy department will uphold the mission and values of the organization.

Describe a department or unit within a health care organization using systems theory terminology. Include a description of inputs, throughput, output, cycles of events, and negative feedback.

Though, all the departments utilize the system theory terminology. As per the system therapy, the organization ensures that the highest standards of health care are provided to the patients.

Inputs are the processes that are provided to the patients

Throughput is the process through which the available resources are transformed as per the needs (Glennister, 2011)

Output means exporting resources to the environment

Cycles of events are the systems that are utilized in all the processes (Johnson et al, n.d)

Negative feedback is attained in order to ensure that the process is amended ...
