Introduction

The paper discusses significance of health informatics in the contemporary world. It investigates the nature of relationship between nursing practices and informatics. In order to draw conclusive results, the paper undertakes a close evaluation of three selected articles on the relationship of health care setting and informatics. The paper summarizes key points of each article in relation to the influence informatics may have on the nursing practices or vice versa.

The first article is based on the clinical examination of information technologies that support evidence based practice within the domain of health care setting.

Summary

The article states that information technologies may embrace nurses with the ability and skill to undertake effective and reliable evidence based practices. In the light of research evidence, the article claims that use of information technology will be feasible for nursing practices in order to minimize obstacles to the utilization of research, in the health care setting. Similarly, growing use of information terminals such as tablet or personal digital assistance (PDAs) will have positive impact on the health care setting by increasing efficiency and productivity of nurses in routine activities (Doran et. al., 2010).

Introduction of information technologies in the nursing practice will enhance communication and awareness of research. Moreover, such informatics initiatives will enable nurses to access reliable and realistic information references related to health discipline resulting in improved and informed decision making and quality health care. In addition to this, article sheds light on the counter influence of nursing practice on informatics. It claims that ever growing health needs of communities and societies have urged the use of informatics (Doran et. al., 2010).

In the contemporary world, implacability of health information technologies has become inevitable for effective nursing practices because these technologies enable nurses to take sound decisions backed with authentic and valuable clinical research on the crucial health status of patients. Therefore, it can be concluded that nursing practices and health informatics have become integrated components for each other and an appropriate mix of the two will lead to high quality care (Doran et. al., 2010).
