Short term Career Goals

I am currently in my final year of B.Sc Accounting and Finance. I am planning to begin my M.Sc program in the summer session. Three years from now on, I see myself as having completed my M.Sc program and having a well reputed job as a financial advisor in a reputed financial firm. This would be in alignment with my long term career goal of having a flourishing career and becoming a successful financial analyst.

In the meantime, I am aiming for joining a graduate scheme which would allow me to gain additional practical experience in the field. This would be helpful in my long term career as it would give me the essential experience that is required of financial analysts today. The graduate scheme would be coordinated with my University's placement office. I am aiming to apply to the National Audit Office, and serve a period of 12 months over there during the graduate scheme offered by the audit company. I would learn and grow as an analyst over there and this would help me look after my clients' projects later on (Prospects.ac.uk 2013, p.n.d.).

Challenges

Current trends in the market are such that companies are emphasizing on their own brands and usually recruit individuals via their own websites. However, in-house candidates are also being sourced through social networking websites such as faces.com, etc. Nowadays, in-house staff in companies also has the option to refer people whom they know are seeking employment, to their own employers. Online databases have been built up which screen out thousands of CVs based on certain factors and highlight some of them. Employers are increasingly making use of these techniques to ease their recruitment and selection process. Therefore, in such a competitive market, it is required of me to increase my employment potential. For this I have planned to undertake certain activities.

The core courses in my 12 month Financial Modelling MSc program at Glasgow University would include international capital markets and financial reporting and interpretation. I also plan to take an optional course of financial analysis. These courses would help me progress in the career as the program is designed in such a way that it would enhance my communication and numerical skills. It would also help me as my knowledge of finance would increase (University of Glasgow 2013, p.n.d.).

Long term career goals

Based upon the information stated above, and on my career plan, my long term career is to be working in the financial analysis field. In five years time from now on I see myself as having completed my graduate scheme and MSc program and having practical working experience of working in this field for a minimum of two years. I wish to be serving the financial and accounting field and want to have the designation of a financial analyst. I want to be serving an audit or public sector firm in the long run, in Glasgow, UK.
