Abstract

This research paper examines the purpose of education. Education's role is vital for the betterment of the society and the nation as a whole. Education is a learning process that is not taught only in educational institutions but it is taught by parents, friends and family members. It has different purposes like individual's empowerment, self capability and independence. Education also performs certain functions like socialising, cultural identity, integration of society and increases competition in the society. Its importance and role cannot be ignored as it leads to the success of a society and progress of a nation as a whole. Education has developed and evolved over the years and is now at a better level than in the past.

Introduction

Education has become a vital part of people's life and is gaining a lot of importance. Education is a learning process that moves along as the different stages of life move like children learn from their teachers in school, children learn from their parents or from family friends and other member of the society which as result help in progression of individuals (www.ericfeldberg.com, 2012). It is a process of development which comes from persons internal interests and with the help of external pressures habits are replaced due to the educational development process. It comprises of information, skills that have been learned in the past and passing these skills and information to the next level of education. Education can be of two sorts: that is conventional education versus the progressive education. Conventional education comprises of wrong experiences whereas progressive education consists of experiences that had positive aspects (John Dewey, 1998).
