Introduction

An ideal life for any individual in this world pertains to a tension and stress free life, where he does not have to pay any heed to the troubles that exist around him, nor does he need to be bothered about these stressful or sorrowful instances having an impact on him and his life. However, such a condition or a state of life is far from being true for anyone in this world (World Health Organisation 1992). There are numerous instances or factors in a life that become a pivotal basis for worry and nervousness for the person, which have a direct psychological and emotional impact on him and his activities.

Anxiety

For a naïve or a common mind, the term anxiety signifies a constant state of nervousness and worry; or even an indefinable unpleasant sentiment or feeling that pertains to the expectation of some unfavourable instance or misfortune. However, many individuals also revere anxiety to be a psychological state, comprising of component of varying mental disorders, which are coupled with the streaks of panic, or even the compulsive behaviour. Anxiety can even take place in the absence of the psychological stress, by making an individual experience discomfort, dread, indefinable fear and worries (World Health Organisation 1992).

Types of anxieties

Over time, science and diligent research have been able to discover a number of disorders that play a pivotal role in causing distress in a person's life. Amongst the main types of the numerous anxieties are generalized anxiety disorder, particular phobias, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and panic disorder.

Panic disorder

Panic disorder is amongst the primary anxiety disorder that is experienced by an individual. In this anxiety disorder, a person is struck with a rapid and emergent feeling or emotion of fear and terror, over and over again, without any prior warning or indication (Williams 2000). The prime symptoms of panic disorder may include choking, sweating, irregular heartbeats, pain in the chest, a feeling that may make a person think, as if he is going crazy.



OCD

OCD is rather an intriguing disorder, in which a person is obsessed with certain ritualistic behaviour pertaining to his constantly felt fear, in order to relieve him from those feelings (Suis 2003).

PTSD

Such an anxiety disorder is believed to be the aftermath or the consequence of some sort of traumatic event experience o witnessed by a person, for instance a sexual abuse or a physical attack/harm, a disaster, or a death of a loved one (Stanton 2001). Such individuals, experience prolong episodes or instances of those traumatic images recurring to their imagination, causing the same feeling of fear and distress.

Social anxiety disorder

It is primarily known as the social phobia experienced by numerous individuals, pertaining to exceeding feeling of worry and being excessively elf conscious, with respect to his daily social routines.
