Introduction

Most of the organizations throughout the world are trying to remove discrimination practices from the workplace. It is because in a discriminatory environment, the employees will not feel comfortable and their motivation level and performance will also drop down. In removing the discriminatory practices the legislation plays a key role. As once any legislation is passed in any country, it becomes pertinent for all the stakeholders in that country to implement that legislation in letter and spirit ( Zabalza, & Tzannatos, 1985). In this essay we will discuss in detail that how the anti-discrimination legislation can make a difference in removing inequalities at work. In the United Kingdom, there is employment equality law which makes it sure that that there should not be any prejudice based actions at the work place. Similarly, in the UK labor law it is not allowed to show discrimination against a person because they have one the protected characteristics like age, sex, race, religion, disability, civil and marriage partnership, gender reassignment and sexual orientation. One of the primary legislation in this regard is Equality Act 2010 which outlaws discrimination in public services, access to education, private goods in addition to employment. Similarly, this act legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and in wider society. Furthermore, this act has replaced all the previous anti-discrimination laws due to which the law has become easier and has also strengthened the protection if the victims in some cases. Moreover, this law has set out many ways in which many ways are defined which are unlawful for treating any person. We will now see that whether the anti-discrimination laws in the UK have made any difference on the inequalities at work or not. For that purpose we take National Health Services (NHS). We will see that how various anti- discrimination laws are followed at NHS by analyzing various acts and regulations.

National Health Services (NHS)

It is the policy of the NHS to give equal treatment to all the flexible workers regardless of their race, colour, sexual orientation, gender, marital status, age, nationality, disability or religion (Culley, 2001). Similarly, the NHS also ensures that no condition or requirement is imposed on the employees without proper justification. Furthermore, the NHS requires all of its flexible workers to comply with the equal opportunities and to not show any discrimination with any of the worker. During any assignment the workers at NHS are not allowed to commit any act of harassment or discrimination on the basis of the individual's gender, age, religion, national origin, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation (Culley, 2001). If any individual is found in committing the above mentioned acts than the disciplinary actions will be taken against him.
