What has been the status of women in the United States throughout history?

The woman was a strategic resource at the Conquest, sometimes girlfriend, sometimes victim. The peopling of the Americas and the birth of Creole societies have relied on a heavily male immigration and unions between Europeans and indigenous women, legalized or illegal in between Europeans and African women. Domination was not that experienced. The hyper gamy (the union between a man and a woman superior status to lower status) did not play that way.
