Summary

The research paper assesses the arguments which have been purported in the favor of a transition from traditional management to a more humanistic management approach. The paper not only assesses past literature, it also presents an integrated model of humanistic management, which combines morals, as well as, economic arguments. The integrated model analyzes the areas of business where managers consider profitability yet defies humanistic perspective and the authors present empirical, quantitative, and qualitative support for the above mentioned scenarios. The paper presents an illustration of a Brazilian cosmetic company - Natura. The company in question has been striving to integrate profitability with genuine humanistic values. The principle of humanistic management, which in essence aims to uphold the dignity of humans in relation to the economic context, is gaining prevalence and recognition amongst management experts. The principle rethinks economic incentives and profitability for companies in a completely newer perspective (Spitzeck 2011).

Critical analysis

The research paper adequately addresses the prime area of decision makings which relates to profitability. The paper incorporates past literature and reviews from managers, who suggests that if decision making incorporates ethics and responsible behavior, it is much profitable for the business, because consumers are attracted towards CSR activities of a corporation. However, responsible behavior is not in alignment with profit seeking. At some point in time, humanistic management requires managers to undertake certain decisions which are not profitable in the short term, yet are in line with the ethical and moral values (Spitzeck 2011).
