The author has discussed important IT governance issues in healthcare organizations using mobile devices. Three generic examples are presented in the paper to demonstrate these governance challenges of Information Technology. These examples have drawn out the heterogeneous nature of community healthcare issues and challenges. This is a qualitative study which presented the interviews of healthcare professionals, and their views on the challenges faced due to mobile technology support. It is clear that healthcare professionals cannot do their community activity without some mobile technology support.

The author has discussed the legal issues and challenges faced in healthcare organizations using mobile devices. Mobile computing is certainly advantageous; however, it causes many threats regarding the privacy and security of the health information. The paper has analysed that mobiles devices must be used carefully to overcome such challenges. The paper has provided with the guidance from a security best practice perspective (ISO17799) and from a legislative perspective (HIPAA). The author has argued that mobile computing challenges can be reduced by implying the ISO17799, and further control can be achieved by the implementation of HIPAA in healthcare organizations. A patient has the right to have information on or gain access to his or her own health related record. Hence, HIPAA does not impede a person from this innate right to access his own record. Every patient is legitimate to ask for a copy of his record from his doctor. The person is also entitled to receive a copy of the record maintained by the insurance company.
