Abstract

The standard of quality of health care provided in the health centers has dropped down significantly in the recent years. This low quality of health care provided has affected not only the clinical health centers but also has laid a bad impact on the patients' health.

The economic policies on the government levels formulates strategies to provide funds to the health care systems to influence the attitudes and conducts of personnel involved in providing quality health care. The provision of financial incentives has been introduced to the health care systems that would change the systems inefficiency and poor quality. The purpose of the research is to analyze and assess the impact of these financial incentives and in what manner the attitudes and mind set of the typical professionals will be changed. It will further discuss how the payment system creates deterrents for quality and can produce effective results.

Introduction

In healthcare, there has been an ancient interest as to how the nature and quantity of payment to healthcare organizations and practitioners affects the nature and quantity of services received by clients and expenses of healthcare provided to the patients, practitioners, and government. At present, the health care systems are providing low quality health services to patients in the clinical health care services. There are many reasons that are contributing to such a poor quality. On government level, in order to promote quality services and care to the patients, an initiative has been taken to change the present conditions of providing low quality services. This initiative is based on value based purchasing that provides benefits to those who perform well and contribute in providing good services.

Discussion

Quality of health care services is defined as the extent to which the health care services provided to the patients' increases the chances of required health outcomes and are compatible with the existing professional knowledge. The health care services depend upon the access, structure, process and outcomes of care and how the patients' respond to that care. At present, the poor quality of services provided has put the image of the health care centers on stake. Much has been done in previous years to improve the quality services (Kingma, 2005, p.1). Every step that has been taken has not worked well. Financial incentive is a strategy that has been initiated at government level to enhance the performance and motivate the professionals at health care services to provide the best quality services to its clients.

The financial incentives that are provided to the medical professionals come from the taxes the citizens pay.
