Introduction

This paper intends to provide an analytic commentary on the two articles selected. The two articles selected for the purpose of discussion are “Competing Analytical Paradigms in the Sociological Study of Racism in Canada” written by Hier, Sean P; Walby, Kevin and “To break asunder along the lesions of race; The Critical Race Theory of W.E.B. Du Bois” written by Kamau Rashid. Both the articles are related to the concepts of Racism. The basic components of this paper will revolve around selecting a common theme in the two articles and explore the theme throughout the articles. Further, a brief summary of both the articles selected will be provided. The summary will go beyond highlighting the articles and will provide my own perspective over the themes of the article. An analytical discussion of the articles with regard to the identified themes will also be provided in the paper. The purpose of this paper is to make the readers aware about the underlying racism prevailing in the society.

Summary of “Competing Analytical Paradigms in the Sociological Study of Racism in Canada”

The article provides extremely important insights about the systematic racism prevailing in Canada. Racism remains an important issue of all the societies even in today's modern and developed world. The underlying incidence of institutional or systematic racism in Canada has been witnessed to be growing.

The article clearly provides distinguishable evidences which clarify the underlying categories of racism prevailing in Canada. Racism or ethnic functions remain the basic determinants of the discriminatory distribution of services and resources within the boundaries of Canada. The article also demonstrated the various analytical assumptions within the sociological research producing conflicting knowledge about the growing racism in Canada (Sean & Kevin, 2006).

The authors of the article provided variant approaches to the problem of racism in the article. The aim of authors was to highlight the problem of racism in Canada in detail. The paradigms are reductive and essentializing research interventions. The important aspect while summarizing the article remains the fact that the does not intend to explore the exact measurements of racism prevailing in the boundaries of Canada.

Developing various explanations for the different cleavage of the sociology of racism in Canada was the basic aim of the authors of this article. The article is concluded by suggesting that a reflective research agenda needs to be developed for coping up with the different impacts racism imposes over the citizens living in the boundaries of any one country. Overall, the article seems to provide important insights about the ethnicity and racism problems prevailing in Canada and the ethically blocked mobility of the country (Sean & Kevin, 2006).
