Task 1

The Rationale for the Delegation

The most significant nursing care for Ms deborah Beaton will be the responsibility of her drains and dressing. Caring of Drains and proper surgical dressing is extremely necessary for better results. Drainage tubes are used to drain the lymphatic fluid and blood from the surgical sites. It is also essential for a nurse to record the fluid volume as it will help professionals in the removal of drains. Drains will also help in reducing the swelling around operated areas (Ismael, 1999).

There are six drains placed at the medial of the left breast, left breast, left abdomen, and right lateral abdomen, lateral to the Right breast and at right axilla. It is necessary to take care of each drain as these will cause severe complications related to pain, swelling and discharge (Moro, Carrieri, Tozzi, Lana & Greco, 1995). Surgical drains and tubes are very necessary to take out the extra fluids and blood from the body. Drains are also helpful in improving the wound healing by evacuating the waste materials from the body. Drains will also help to remove exudates and pus. It will also help to prevent ascites and accumulation of air (Jeffrey, Goodson, Ikeda, Birdwell, & Bogetz, 1995).

It is part of nurse to take complete responsibility of surgical drains. Ignorance may lead to the bacterial infections, which will become more hazardous for the patient. A nurse should measure the fluids in the drainage bag, because of its importance in recovery (Barton, Blitz, Callahan, Yakimets, Adams, & Dabbs, 2006).. A nurse should note the volume of fluid on her log sheet. Moreover, a nurse should empty the drainage bag after recording the fluid volume (Barton, Blitz, Callahan, Yakimets, Adams, & Dabbs, 2006).

This patient strictly needs an extra attention towards the care of her drains because of her rapid recovery. Any illness or mishap due to surgical drains will prevent her recovery time. It will not be beneficial for the patient to cope with any illness during the recovery time (Gonzalez, Saltzstein, Redner & Nelson, 2003).

Duties in Delegating the Task

As a registered nurse, it is my responsibility towards the patient to guide her properly about each and every measure to be taken upon her. It is also my responsibility to ensure the patient regarding full and proper health care (Barton, Blitz, Callahan, Yakimets, Adams, & Dabbs, 2006).. I should acknowledge her regarding the design, benefits and risk factors associated to surgical drains. I should give full information about the impact of drains over the recovery of the patient. It is also my responsibility to look after her drainage reports and fluid volume (Vilar-Compte, Jacquemin, Robles-Vidal & Volkow, 2004).

Proper documentation and designing of nursing care plan will be my top most responsibilities regarding to the hospital. I should report accurately and ethically to the high authorities regarding the patient. It is essential because any hazard or mishap will make an impact over ...
