The topic under study relates to philosophy of religions. It arguably discusses a question that “Is there, or could be there, an omnipotent being?”
Even people, who believe that omnipotent being does exist, do not clearly understand its meaning. There are two roots of the word “Omnipotent”. These roots are “Omni” which means “all” and “Potent” which means “potential”. By the division of these roots, the meaning of omnipotent can be clearly understood. Omnipotent is something that has all the potential to do everything. Therefore, omnipotent refers to an existence of something that has all the power and potential to do everything. One of the roots of omnipotent; potential means the ability of becoming or accomplishing something.
Discussion
As far as omnipotence is concerned, there is no doubt in the fact that this position is sustained and controlled by God. God is omnipotent and logically it is not possible that there be any other being that is omnipotent.
From the definition, it is analyzed that omnipotent possess potential to do everything. This potential is not only present in terms of perceived ability but, in actually practicing those abilities.
The argument that is there or could be there an omnipotent, starts with a fact that almost 80 percent of the people living on earth belongs to some religions. At the same time, almost every religion has its own belief about the existence of God, who are undoubtedly said to be omnipotent (Meister & Copan, 2007).
