Abstract

The importance of Small and Medium enterprises has been identified through the years in contributing to the economy of many countries. The research focuses on the contribution SMEs make to the economy of UK. Similarly in the case of SME's, here too the performance of the firm is judged on the basis of growth. Most importantly sustainable growth in sales is considered to a deciding and reliable success criteria (Laurence, 2001). There have been considerable developments in tax policy, which have impacted on compliance costs within the UK over the last 20 years, and these are reviewed in order to set the current findings into context. The literature review considers developments in the split between core compliance costs, total costs and the costs of activities that are required for ongoing business decisions unconnected with tax. Time management skills priorities, urgent versus important, delegation, time management tools - the dynamic world of work today makes high demands on the self-organizing capacity of each individual.
