Introduction

The following paper is basically a personal reflection on the two different piece of work, one is the book by the name of American Religious Diversity and the other one is the article by the name of Who can Sit on the Lord's Table. Both these paper basically covering the religious outlook that how the mind of the people changed towards the religion with the passage of time, similarly, the perceptions regarding different concepts also changed with the time. Therefore, in this paper, the author discussed the different aspects of the article and the book to give the readers an elaborative overview regarding the religious diversity.

Identity versus Assimilation

There is a relationship close between assimilation and identity. Through the process of enculturation and socialization, the identity takes the form that religion takes in subjects in different groups or identities that make up. It follows that every person in his act basically reflecting his religion and cultural identity that acquires, define, edit and redefines through a process that lasts the whole existence.

The problem of ' identity and assimilation is taking on dimensions increasingly dilated not only in the complex society, but also in the so-called simple living. The article discussed that the acceptance of the civilization and Christianity from this orientation basically reflected that it was made an attempt to maintain the tribal sovereignty of that era; however, the benefit of this separation helped the Christian mode to maintain the indigenous expression. The religious identity through a crisis caused a deep effect, and the process of approval of the acceptance with the growing detachment from tradition and the process of uprooting due to migration and territorial mobility for the search of work or home or to escape from political and economic situations where the livability becoming impossible (Hout & Fischer, 2001).

In this process of enculturation and acculturation, there were possible different solutions, such as: the establishment of ' identity or stiffening, the ' identity denied and ' assimilation uncritical of models Cultural outside, the ' oscillation between models cultural sometimes conflicting, the synthesis and ' integration. Very often , however, which causes only confusion of identity , with all the ambivalence and the conflict that this supposed or ' pre-modern 'or understood as a given natural that unites individuals of the same origin, language and religion , inhabitants of the same territory and in possession of certain traditions which they characterize . Most of the time, it is based on a conception wrong of race or ethnicity, which easily leads to claims, conflicts between groups different and opposed.

The identity ethnicity is described as a component of identity capital that comes from belong to that part of the image of himself that was born from the awareness of being a member of a particular group, ethnic , together with the value and meaning emotionally attached to that membership .
