Same-sex marriages were registered in the U.S. - the first such ceremony held in May in Massachusetts. The legislation of all 50 U.S. states not originally specified, the people of any gender can create a family, which enabled the mayors of several cities to officially launch to register marriages of gays and lesbians. Critics of this practice believe that official recognition of same-sex families marks the end of traditional marriage.
