Background

The elections of 1800 demonstrated the beginning of Republicans domination in US politics. The domination lasted for about 28 years. Jefferson and Burr received same numbers of vote from the Republican electors. The situation resulted in an election deadlock. Burr was presented as a candidate for Vice Presidency, but now he had a rightful claim to presidency. The case was presented to the House of Representatives, where Jefferson was elected as an American President. The deadlock stayed on for about a week causing uncertainty in the national politics.
