The beginning of 1950's marked the beginning of the Cultural Revolution in the history of America. Firstly, numerous traditional cultures were starting to become unpopular, particularly among the young generation. Secondly, women were no longer willing to play the role of mere house wives. They wanted to work and earn. Thirdly, the youth was becoming more and more influential due to commercialization. In the cold war era, the American economy was operating as a free market and a wide variety of goods and services were produced in order to give the consumers are a broad range to choose from. This was considered as a feeling of freedom in the nation. Moreover, during this era, the American goods were considered to be a status symbol for the rest of the world. The TV advertisements along with the Hollywood movies went onto become very popular in the rest of the world. Furthermore, there was a massive increase in the production and consumption of goods and services and people expected themselves to own cars, refrigerators, televisions to such an extent that these goods were considered were considered a basic requirement. The ownership of cars rose by a daunting 250% along with a 34% increase in the income levels of the consumers. All in all, people became more status conscious and desire to live a comfortable life. In this era, people were becoming more and more fashion conscious and desired to keep up with the latest trends while the producers worked hard to cater to the diverse needs of the consumers. We witnessed the birth of the Disney land which was very popular among the consumers and was another example of a change in consumer culture.
