The world and the social life of the ex-slaves, after the time period of civil war, was not much different. It is because of the reason that, if the ex-slaves did get the work, they were paid much lesser than the white Americans. Most of the slaves were dependent on their masters because they did not own any property or source of their income. That is the reason that, they were supposed to work for their masters. In addition to this, the history demonstrates that, during the era of reconstruction and civil war, fight of the slaves for their freedom, ultimately converted in to the fight for their survival. The large number of slaves were unconfined from their past farms. This situation led the ex-slaves to the economical, social and cultural crisis. Furthermore, during the time period of reconstruction, the prevalent and severe poverty of the ex-slaves resulted in the form of enhanced morality rate, specifically in the children of Americans (Donovan, et.al., 2012).
