Introduction

During the period of late 18th and early 19th centuries, the U.S came across with many political problems. It has been researched that some of the problems were not significant, but it greatly impacted over the American political junction. During this time period, the concept of territorial expansion was the key issue of American politics. This idea became the destiny of United States for taking over the entire North America from Atlantic to Pacific Ocean. Most of the people were in favor of this expansion; on the other hand, few politicians believed that it opposes the U.S constitution. One of the key supporters of Territory expansion was the great democrat, James Polk, who served the American nation from 1844 to 1848 as a President. Polk was highly in favor of increasing the boundaries of U.S to the Pacific. This idea was the basis of his election winning and Henry Clay was blown out form the charts of U.S. Clay only had single problem that was confused about the expansion of territories and did not want to war with Mexico. But at contrast, Polk was strongly willing to expand the territories. As per the conversation with David M. Pletcher, he said that Polk really wanted to force Mexico into negotiation with the U.S, and simultaneously he was giving a war threat for doing this.
