The civil war is also known as the War Between the States because it was fought within the United States of America. The period extended from 1861 to 1865. The war was based on the issue of slavery. The extension of slavery into the western territories was the main concern. The battle concluded with the abolishment of slavery and the collapse of Confederacy. The war was catastrophe although the foreign powers did not intervene. Finally, the national unity was restored and rights were served to the freed slaves.
