Alzheimer's is one of the most disturbing health condition An estimated 5.2 million Americans of all ages have Alzheimer's disease in 2013. This includes an estimated 5 million people age 65 and older and approximately 200,000 individuals under age 65 who have younger-onset Alzheimer's (Hebert, Weuve,Scherer and Evans, 2013). Studying this disease in a comprehensive manner is becoming increasingly important. This report documents Alzheimer's - related information such as symptoms, causes and treatment strategies.
Introduction
The demise of cells of the brain that leads to cognitive decline and memory loss is the neurological disorder named as Alzheimer's disease. In the beginning, it is mild, but then progressively it gets worst. Alzheimer's disease (A.D) is the simplest and general kind of dementia in senior people. Dementia is a disease of the brain which badly disturbs the ability of person to do regular activities. Alzheimer's disease starts gradually. Originally, it engages the brain parts which are responsible for managing language, thought and memory. Individuals who have Alzheimer's disease can have difficulty in remembering things which occurred freshly or the names of person they know. A linked issue, mild cognitive impairment (M.C.I), makes additional memory issues than usual for individuals of similar age. Majority of individuals but not all who have mild cognitive impairment will have Alzheimer's disease.
In the Alzheimer's disease, with the time, the symptoms become worse. Individuals are not able to identify family members or have difficulty in writing, speaking and reading. They can forget that how to comb their hair and brush their teeth. After some time, they can be aggressive or anxious, or they may wander away from their home. Finally, they want full care. This may give huge stress to the family members who should care for them. Alzheimer's disease usually starts when a person gets above age 60. The danger increase as one gets older. Your danger is even greater if any of your family members had A.D. The disease cannot be stopped by any treatment. Although, for a short time interval, several drugs can help in managing symptoms from becoming worse. The paper summarizes symptoms, treatment and causes of A.D.
Discussion
Before going into the detail we would discuss the concept of Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's disease is described as a disease of the brain that affects the transmission of chemicals in the brain (Berchtold, 1998). When a person is affected by Alzheimer's plaques and tangles develop in the brain causing death of some of the brain cells (Mayeux, 2003; Shineman & Fillit, 2009). The disease is progressive so with time more parts of the brain can be damaged, and symptoms of memory loss can increase. Because of brain damage a person's normal functioning will gradually decline such as the ability to remember, understand, communicate and reasoning (Mayeux, 2010; Jay & Ellis, 2005). There are some common symptoms of the disease; though each person affected by Alzheimer can be affected differently hence no two people can be affected the same way. An individual is affected in their own ...
