ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE

Alzheimer's Disease

Abstract

Alzheimer is a very common form of dementia. It is not related to age and is essentially a disorder of the brain which is non-reversible. The disease occurs in 4 steps. These are pre-dementia, early-dementia, moderate-dementia, and advanced-dementia. There are two forms of dementia. These include Alzheimer that has coupled with early onset and that which is marked by late-onset. Alzheimer is very common in United States of America. Five percent of men and women aged above 65 in the US are suffering from Alzheimer. In this study we try to explore the concept of Alzheimer's disease in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on it causes, its precipitating factors, sign and symptoms, and its relation with current treatment option. The research also analyzes many aspects of Alzheimer's disease and tries to gauge its effect on human health. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for Alzheimer's and tries to describe the overall effect of causes on Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's Disease

Introduction

Caring for individuals that are facing the chronic illness of Alzheimer's disease can be about providing basic needs to the patient with total dependency for social, emotional and economic requirements. Most of the time, families try to struggle with such members in the family, who are inflicted with chronic illness emotionally and physically. However, many family members are not able to provide adequate care to patients with Alzheimer's disease; therefore, caregivers are often asked to care for such patients (Alzheimer's Association, 2007). The burden of care placed upon caregivers frequently increases depression and stress through impacting financial status, interpersonal relationships, social interactions and the environment of caregivers. However, caregivers are required to adapt these changes in order to adjust to these changing variables that are caused by a debilitating disease. The risk of stress and other illness are likely to be increased because of the various variables that impact caregivers and their continuous try to adjust to these requirements or changes while caring for individuals with chronic illness of Alzheimer's. This disease gradually progress as a type of dementia. Although diagnosis of the disorder is difficult, memory impairment is considered a necessary symptom. Other symptoms include cognitive deficits in language and object recognition and behavioral markers such as psychosis, depression and wandering. The most common cause of dementia among people age 65 and older, the disease afflicts an estimated four million Americans (Alzheimer's Association, 2010).

Discussion

Disease Process

The disease develops slowly and imperceptibly. The patient becomes forgetful and absent-minded, less assimilates new information. He is disturbed orientation in time; he is confused in familiar sequence of events. Less commonly, the disease begins with a change in the nature of the worse: there rudeness, selfishness, indifference. Those character traits that were characteristic of the patient (gentleness, sensitivity) are gradually disappearing. Povljana delirium, the patient begins to think that no one likes, they are burdened, he constantly bad mood, may develop depression (Ernst, & Hay, 1994).
