Abstract

Airport security is a matter of concern for the whole world after the occurrence of huge destruction like 9/11. This is because of the large security related threats since the beginning of the century; today the security for airports has become a real paramount. In the research which is being conducted, the research approach which is adopted is qualitative approach. This research work has adopted an explanatory research design. The secondary data was collected through a thorough online research; on the other hand primary data was collected through doing four face to face interviews. The targeted population consists of four respondents. All of them are currently employed and are working with airport authorities on different designations. This research is concluded on the basis of revealed fact.

Introduction

Airport security is a matter of concern for the whole world after the occurrence of huge destruction like 9/11. This is because of the large security related threats since the beginning of the century; today the security for airports has become a real paramount. Having a much in-depth view of the issue it can be seen that the airport sites presents really peculiar security challenges. Issues like detection of the perimeter related breaches and interruption in areas which are comparatively remote and are considered to be away from the airport's hub is a really big trouble. On the other hand, as security systems are becoming more and more sophisticated, dependable and comparatively priced. There is also a better incorporation of the products from manufacturers of various equipments. Furthermore these challenges and vulnerabilities might also become a reason for overcoming the effective solutions (Martonosi & Barnett, 2006).

In United States the TSA which stands for Transportation Security Administration is the set up made by the Department of Homeland Security for the sake of protecting the transportation network for the Unites States. TSA was found in the year 2011 and since then there is a series of efforts which are made so far by them for making the nation's transportation much more secure and for implementation better procedures (Hawley & Means, 2012).

There is a series of issues faced by TSA has faced at the time of developing and implementing advanced strategies like passenger prescreening system which is renowned as Secure Flight, and in addition to that there are efforts made by DHS for enhancing the perimeter security at airports which might not be sufficient for the sake of providing effective security. There are also so many efforts made by TSA for initiating efforts for evaluating the effectiveness of the technologies which are related to the security, like biometric identification, which have not developed a formal plan for the sake of implementing newer set of technologies for meeting the security requirements of the individual airports (Martonosi & Barnett, 2006).
