Abstract

This paper details out the formation of a maintenance and engineering firm for an airline. The paper illustrates the proposed organizational chart and the structure of the firm. Moreover, it further illustrates on the expert individual employed and their tasks, their responsibilities and ownership of specific domains.

Aircraft Maintenance Management

Introduction

Every organization dealing in goods, technical operations or operations that encompass the usage of high tech machinery and equipment require maintenance of their equipments on a regular basis. The organizations whose operations solely rely on their huge and high tech equipments acknowledge the fact that the job is not finished with buying the required machinery, the machinery constantly requires up gradation and maintenance, so that the equipments may not get useless and ineffective. Moreover, if constant maintenance of the equipment and machinery is not carried out, then there is a possibility for these equipments to acquire some faults that can be detrimental for the operations if the organization.

The term maintenance is deemed, not as a scheduled examination of equipments, but it is a detailed process that encompasses the ascertaining of capability and capacity of the equipments to perform the required functions, record and acknowledge the issues regarding the functionality of the equipment and its analysis; moreover, after acknowledging the issues, the processes of taking corrective and remedial measure to overcome the problem and fault; and assuring the appropriate rebuilding and maintenance that was required.

Moreover, the maintenance of engineering and technical equipments is so detailed and enormous, that it requires be carrying out or executing with care and in minute detail. Therefore, the large organization reserve a whole different department for the maintenance practices, or at most instances outsource the required services from an expert and proficient engineering maintenance organization. Several companies do not pay great heed to the timely maintenance and up gradation of machinery and equipment, and ignore the importance of a maintenance department or outsourcing the required services from another firm; therefore, such companies end up incurring more operational cost than they estimated or even losses in their business.

Similarly, this paper presents the structure of a maintenance engineering organization that is proficient and adept, in providing the required maintenance services to the organization.

The meaning and idea of the term is evident from the word maintenance, and needs not to be further explained. Its importance is well acknowledged considering that every function and operation is entirely dependent on repairing and maintenance, regardless of the fact that the function requires human effort, or it is mechanical.
