AGE AND JOB SATISFACTION

The Effect of Age on Job Satisfaction

The Effect of Age on Job Satisfaction

Research Methodology

Introduction

The purpose of this study will be to elaborate on the nature of the relationship between the variables of job satisfaction and job performance of an employee. For this purpose, the fundamental research question, which has been formulated, includes the investigation of how the aspect of age produced impact on the variable of job satisfaction.

Research Design

To investigate the strength and nature of relationship between the variables of job satisfaction and job performance of an employee, the quantitative research design adopted, for this research would include the evaluation of the correlation analysis for the mentioned variables.

Setting and Background

Various researchers have demonstrated their interest in the field and have conducted researches to assess the relationship between the mentioned variables. In a research study, the authors evaluated the job satisfaction among workers of different age groups. They from their analysis found affirmative correlation between autonomy, job satisfaction, significance of task, skill variety, feedback, and identity of task, however, no considerable influence of age on job satisfaction was found (Besen, Matz-Costa, Brown, Smyer & Pitt-Catsouphes, 2013, pp. 269-295). For the present research, the research process will be conducted within the work setting of employees, with the intention of avoiding the potential influence of any confounding variables, on the results of the study.

Population and Sample

The target population for the present research would include the employees serving at the managerial level in 4 different companies, operating within the United States. The sample for the present study will be comprised of 75 managers, which will be drawn on the basis of simple random sampling. The reason of selecting 75participates is to ensure that the sample is large enough to obtain results which are reliable and can be generalized to a comparatively larger proportion of the population with no or minimal chances of error. Also, it would be assured that all of the selected participants are educationally well qualified and have a diploma, a post graduate degree or at least a diploma in the relevant field. Moreover, to avoid the influence of any potential confounding variable, the age range of the participants will be defined and only those participants will be selected who belong to the age range of 35 to 45 years old, with a mean age of 40 years.

Hypothesis

In the light of the literature review and the aims and objectives of the study, the hypothesis, which has been formulated, is mentioned below;

Null Hypothesis: The age group will not exert a positive effect on the level of job satisfaction of the employees.

Alternate Hypothesis: The age group will exert a positive effect on the level of job satisfaction of the employees.

Instrument

The standardized measure, which will be used to evaluate the level of satisfaction of the employees regarding their job, will be the Job Descriptive Index (JDI), which was developed by Smith and Kendal, in the year ...
