Introduction

Africa is the third largest continent in the world. The population of Africa is 800 million people. About 75% of the population lives in the rural areas. A recent study suggested that the population of Africa will be doubled because of its high fertility rate. Africa comprises of people of diverse culture, language and religion. It also has great diversity in physical, climatic and geographical landscape. Africa has immense energy resources in its subsoil and has abundant raw materials that can be utilized for industrialization. It also has massive rural landscape and ideal climatic condition that are suitable for agricultural purposes and yet, Africa is considered one of the least developed continents in the world.

Discussion

As we all know that Africa has all the natural resources in abundance and has massive rural landscape which can be utilized for industrialization and agricultural development. Despite of having all the ingredients, Africa is still considered the least developed nation of the world even after 50 years of its independence.

After 50 Years of Independence

After 50 years of independence, very little development has been observed in Africa and there are various reasons behind it. On the other hand, Africa remains plagued with issues such as poverty, diseases, civil wars, illiteracy and underdevelopment. Africa also ranks the lowest in the technology sector and suffers from great food insecurity. It is also affected by many health problems such as malaria, small pox, leprosy and the most dangerous disease AIDS. The basic reason behind the underdevelopment of Africa is the bankrupt and selfish politicians, each aspiring to be rich and wealthy. The government didn't devise regulatory framework and this is why Africa is still suffering (Zack, 2002).

In the initial years, Africa was ruled by European leaders. They were deprived of national liberation. With the passage of time, Africa realized that were discriminated by Europeans in all political and economic fields. They were mistreated and were never given equal rights. Many Africans observed that they never received appreciation for their efforts to support imperialist countries during the world wars. Africa protested against the rise of colonialism in their region and demanded national liberation.Decolonisation started after the Second World War. Many political parties joined hands with the imperialist powers such as the united sates and ensured decolonization by the end of 1980.in Africa decolonization started with Libya. Many colonies tried their level best to destroy African sovereignty and their independence. But with the passage of time many other countries of the African region started gaining independence and finally succeeded to attain national liberation.
