Introduction

A healthy person enjoys each and everything in the world. Therefore keeping a check and balance on human health for diseases is very much necessary. Timely check up helps in reducing fatal diseases up to greater extent. In this paper we are going to discuss a community group who is facing different problems due to pandemic disease and majority of them are having same problems. We will be highlighting the demographic and health characteristics of that community, define in detail the outcomes of the disease, its communication strategies and what shall be done to improve the situation. The paper will constitute all the concerns broadly with appropriate details focusing on the disease and its outcomes with recommendation to minimize its affects.

Part I - Community/State Demographics and Health Status

We are going to discuss the community of Africans who have been living in America, hence termed as African Americans in the state of Chicago in United States. According to 2010 statistics for the population of Black in Chicago reveals that approximately 17 percent or 1,645,993 people from the population of Chicago, US are black (Blackdemographics.com, 2010). The health of this particular group has been found not appropriate or healthy as majority of them have been found suffering from type 2 diabetes. They are suffering from this disease and have been affected heavily from the chronic results of this disease. There are numerous internal and external factors that heavily impact the health of individuals, families and the community as a whole. Those factors include genetic differences, cultural problems, ethnicity, race, age differences, sexual orientation, beliefs, tradition and spirituality. All these were internal factors that were influencing the health of the community. Not only internal factors but also there are some of the external factors that result in bringing health problems which may be described by environment in which the individual or the community sustains, socio-economic differences between individuals and community groups and different workplace behaviors.

Likewise other diseases, when a person suffers from ay health problem, he/she requires it to be diagnosed properly and rectified through proper use of medicine. There are different ways through which a person may acquire treatment to his issue/ problem in health. Communities may rely on medicines or some other ways which include non-western practices for cure and wellness of health. This area is specifically dealing with all the African Americans living in the city of Chicago.

Part II - Definition of Type 2 Diabetes in African Americans

Majority of the African Americans have been found suffering from type 2 diabetes. It is a common disease in this population amongst individuals, families and the community as a whole. From every six white Americans there are ten African Americans that are suffering from type 2 diabetes. There are approximately 730,000 African American that have been suffering from diabetes but are unaware of it as it has not been diagnosed by them.
