ADolls House

The play is about Nora and Torvald Helmer who lives in a seemingly good marriage. In the house also live their three children they have together, a maid and a nanny, as well as Dr Rank is Torvald best friend. Dr. Rank was a sick man, but acted to some extent still is. Torvald was the type who liked to show off their status and to have a good reputation. For him, it is important to have control over Nora, and seems a bit condescending toward her, among other things by navnekalling. Nora even acts apparently to accept this.

Nora Helmer: Nora is a pretty, bright, happy and gentle lady. She has long blonde hair, blue eyes and white skin. She wears nice bright clothes and hair with intent. She has no problems in the world and does everything in joy. Nora is adult enough to take care of the house, raising kids and being a good wife and she is childish enough to be playing with the kids.

Torvald Helmer: Torvald is a tall, dark man. He has dark brown short hair, brown eyes and he has a little beard and a little mustache. Otherwise, he has a warm appearance. He believes that he is the man of the house and that it is he who then makes money, alone. He works a lot and hard and therefore sees little of his children.

Mrs. Kristine Linde: Kristine is a tall, skinny and pale lady. She has dark brown hair and brown eyes. She runs a lot of dark clothes and wears their hair erected in the knitting. She is a happy and a widow who loves to provide for themselves and others. She works on her own and lives alone. She loves Krogstad, but she married another because of the economy (Hornby & Richard, 1995).

Solicitor Krogstad: Krogstad is a tall dark man, with dark brown short hair, brown eyes, cold and bare. He is dressed in dark clothing and has a frightening appearance, both in the cold eyes and the way he is on. He seems to always be sour and bitter and you notice that he has had much adversity in life.

One day, Mrs. Linde, one of Nora's friends, visited, and the two sit together and talk about their lives. Nora tells of how wonderful her life had been and Torvald will take over as head of the bank shares. They also began to talk about the past; including one year Nora and Torvald had spent in Italy. While they had been there Torvald had fallen ill and the doctor had said to Nora that if she did not provide money for treatment would Torvald die. She had secretly lent money to it, but told Torvald that she received money from his father so that he would not be ashamed or be angry that she had borrowed money. This told her, perhaps without quite meaning to, to Mrs. Linde. As, Mrs. Linde had come to seek work ...
