An addiction is a habitual dependence on an element or a substance either it is psychological or physiological dependence which is beyond the voluntary control of a person. An addicted person experiences powerlessness over a habitual behavior where his life becomes unmanageable. There are several kinds of addictions which includes drugs, alcohol, shopping, pain seeking, smoking gambling, internet, supplements, sex, pornography and many more.

Key Elements of Pornographic Addiction

A pornographic addiction is defined as form of explicit representation of sexual activity or human body which stimulates the sexual arousal and sexual relief. It is an unambiguous portrayal for the sexual subject matter for the purpose of sexual arousal. This addiction stimulates the feeling of extreme sexual pleasure where the viewer fantasizes the pornographic scenes and images which stimulate sexual arousal. The pornographic material comprises of either print or an electronic media which comprises of magazines, literature, books, drawing, animation, movies and videos, postcards, video games and internet. The industry of pornographic material on internet is called cyberporn where there are millions of dollars being spent and invested on this addiction.

Behavior and Addiction in modern society

With the technological development the consumption of pornography increased. With broadly available internet media it fuels the addiction and consumption of pornographic material. Moreover, the easily availability of such material on mobile phones, tablets and laptops and such mobile gadgets leads to frequent watching of porn and leading to addiction. There are different groups in society which prefer watching porn and other who don't like this and consider as taboo. The people in the conservative societies or those who have religious impact discourage any such material and addiction.

However, in the modern societies people consider porn as a glamour and fashion. The porn industry is considered as adult entertainment industry to undertake it as some kind of entertainment industry. In such societies pornographic addiction leads to personal satisfaction where one involves in masturbation or sex for its sexual relief. Moreover, it may leads to several mental and health disorders like, compulsivity, emotional liability, impulsivity and impaired judgment (Cassidy, 2013).

Individuals and Groups involved in Addiction

The individuals and the groups that are involved in such addiction are mostly the teenagers and the people who have frequent access to such content and material. Both the genders are affected by pornographic addiction. There are about 25 percent internet searches related to sexual and pornographic content. Apart from the men and boys, females are also involved in this kind of addiction where there are about one third of the internet searches related to porn are performed by women. The porn addict may satisfy its addiction need through wide availability of the content on the internet and the mobile gadgets.
