The Book Report

Scratch Beginnings is a comprehensively interesting (and fairly informative) book of Adam Shepard that enlightened about the reality of living lower status of the socioeconomic class. It is significantly most appealing and applicable than Barbara Ehrenreich's same Nickel and Dimed, which I did not like. It is also easily readable and understandable. The book is enjoyable enough, that once anyone start reading it would be difficult for him/her to put in down and finish reading it approximately in one straight shot.

Many people are falling into ruin or will soon, not only by the external economic crisis (blame others) but also by internal causes: the absence of personal savings to the vicissitudes of life, to live over our possibilities, lack of caution and because we all blindly supported an unsustainable system.

The world is out there waiting for us to make our dreams true (Shepard, 15). So this is the story of Adam Shepard, a young American who proposed the challenge of starting from scratch with $ 25 in my pocket and achieves certain goals one year ahead.

Adam Shepard in the year 1982 decided to see himself whether the "American Dream" out of nowhere and get to have a place in society with quality of life is still possible. The idea came to him after reading the book by Barbara Ehrenreich " Nickel and Dimed, is an arduous critique of American labor system through an investigation of working conditions the poorer classes in which the author had experienced firsthand the situation.

For this challenge, Adam established a number of conditions

Starting almost from scratch: $ 25, an empty backpack, his clothes and a sleeping bag becoming a citizen 1 year roof, with a car that works with $ 2,500 in cash and the possibility of starting his own business he decided to prohibit to beg or borrow money or credit, he will not sleep at the street, he will not do anything illegal, he will not use the agenda, or any previous contacts for assistance, and above all and the most controversial rule that should not use the education and university degree to find employment
