Weegee's Photography
Introduction
Arthur Fellig or falsely known as Weegee was a photographer as well as photojournalist, who is popular for his street photography and stark black photos. He developed his touch among the other photographers and photojournalists by following the emergency services of the New York City at that time (www.colorcubic.com). His works clearly spoke about the urban life including areas such as crime, death and injury. Weegee was a self taught photographer without any formal training of Photography. Weegee used back of his car as his dark room. He did most of his photography using only the basic photography tools which were known at that point of time. The camera, which became a, source for his most known photographs was known as Speed Graphic Camera. By looking at the Weegee's work, it can be observed that he was not very fond of Moral gradations and tonal gradations, as both the aspects seemed to be absent from the work of the weegee (Gurewitsch.p.9).
Weegee mostly worked at night, he mostly worked for the newsprint, therefore, he always had speed graphic with a detachable flash and a large reflector. Although weegee left the world in 1968, yet he is able to live on in the imagination of many photographer's, who still idealizes him. The work done by the weegee is considered by many as one of the very special one's, weegee made his own mark in times of the great competition in the industry by his sheer genius and his eye for the subject. Weegee completely devoted his life for the sake of the photography. He was a typical commercial photographer who roamed on the streets at night in order to grasp such pictures, which would prove, beneficial in selling his works to the audiences which are and will always be there, who have an interest in the life of others (Goldberg,p.50). Weegee worked on his intuitions and always held his view that the photography is not divided on to issues such as artistic, or any sort of financial or ethical issues attached to it. He in short was a photographer which fell into the category of “Papparazi”.
