Abstract

As far as recent history dictates, Spain has been one of those nations that has faced a lot of criticism for being among those nations that put up a lot of barriers in terms of economic growth, the result of which is that almost 23% of the population is unemployed. But now, the concept of Las Vegas for Europe is slowly gaining in popularity, called Eurovegas. Through a massive investment by interested businessmen, it will thrive in creating casinos and hotels, and the proper environment for commercialism in the heart of Madrid. In this paper, I will be analyzing and examining the concept of Eurovegas and whether or not it is an idea that will affect the nation of Spain in a positive or a negative manner. There are several factors involved in the project that are being internationally debated, such as the jobs that it will create, whether direct or indirect, as well as the effect it will have on the tourism industry of Spain. There are several points that can be raised against the whole idea as well, since Las Vegas, which is the sole inspiration for this project, is a hub for gambling, addictions and other such vices which have led to a steady increase in the city's crime rate. Apart from that, there are definite repercussions of having a project based in a city that is already such a successful family resort.

The family aspect of it may be affected, with people arriving from all over Europe to partake in gambling in casinos and other such activities. Most debates are centered on whether Eurovegas will eventually turn the city of Madrid into Atlantic City. Based in New Jersey, Atlantic City started off as an industrial capital of the United States of America, but due to burgeoning demand and an abundance of wealthy businessmen, turned into a hub for casinos, whorehouses and other entertainment that was not fit for family. Madrid is currently already such a popular resort for people all over Europe, who come to spend their vacations there especially due to the fact that the weather remains dry there throughout the year unlike other European countries. This makes it a vacation spot for the whole family, and wholesome entertainment for students who travel around.
