This paper presents an overview of ABCB1 Gene, its location and its functions. ABCB1 gene is a member of the ATP binding cassette (ABC) Transporter super-family. The gene is also known as multi-drug resistance 1 (MDR1) gene and its protein product called P-glycoprotein (P-GP). ABCB1 is expressed in barrier and excretory tissues, protective or elimination of roles, such as the intestines, liver, kidney, blood-brain barrier and placenta.
