ABSTRACT

The research proposal will highlight the major aspects of the Chinese Foreign Policy that has achieved a lot of interest from different sources over the past several years. The main focus of this research will be on the Assertive Behaviour and Coercive Tactics used by China and to assess its impact on the regional and global policy. A time series analysis will be prepared in order to form a suitable guideline for the research study to meet the objectives of the research. The data for the whole research will be collected from several sources such as the books, journals, online libraries and reports. All the information collected from the research will help in identifying the proper conclusion that whether present tactics of Chinese foreign policy is working well for them or not. The other aspect that will be identified is that whether the current strategy of Chinese foreign policy is helping them to have peaceful relationship or not with ASEAN members and the Western world including the superpower USA. Therefore, these are going to be the overall information that will be discussed in the entire research proposal.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Introduction

This proposal will address the entire aspects related to the Chinese Assertiveness and Coercive Tactics used in its foreign policy. A proper assessment will be conducted regarding the impact of the Chinese Assertive Behaviour in the ASEAN Region and on a global level as well. China has a lot of value in the entire region because of its strong economic position and has even taken several steps to improve its security capabilities as well. The major objective in this research is to see that whether China pose any kind of threat or not towards the region and on global level as well because of their present coercive tactics. Therefore, all these issues will be discussed in detail.

Research Questions and Overview

The research questions have a dependence on the current topic which is the impact of China's use of coercive tactics on International Relations in East Asia. Therefore, by considering this important issue, there are certain research questions which will be addressed in the topic. The research questions are:

What has been the overall Foreign Policy of China over the last 20 years?

What is the role of China in the South Asian Region?

How has been the overall relationship between China and ASEAN organization?

How effective has been the relationship of US-China in different spheres?

What are the expectations from the China in the future by the ASEAN countries and the Western World?

Research Problem
