The journal article under review is “A study of church members during times of crisis”. The authors of the article are Howard W. Stone, Karyn B. Purvis, Melissa J. young and David R. Cross. The study examines the experience of the church members during the situation of a crisis. It identifies the resources that are helpful during the time of crisis and relates to the social support. The study aims to identify the importance of participating in the specific congregations that pertains to the particular religious beliefs of the people and its impact on the crisis situations. The study reveals that such kind of gatherings helps the people and church members during the time of social crisis of a person. The religious involvements of people could help them during the time of crisis due to the social interactions they posses with the religious gatherings and congregations of specific kinds that develops their relationships with the people.
The study investigates the traditional and religious resources that could perhaps help the church members during the time of crisis. The crisis is defined as a context and situation in which people are directly involved with some kind of external severe hazard that would possibly impact the lives of the people including the loss of abilities of coping with the crisis or confinement of actions or activities against it. The study is based on the interview from those who have been affected by some kind of crisis situation and their experience as a church member during the coping up process with the crisis.
