Schulz in 1976 determined that aged people loses control over emotions and events as they feel depressed and angry on sudden events and changes. Predictable positive events had great impact on aged people who feel free when they are aware of any event or occurrence that is going to take place. Control improves the overall situation for elderly, and they feel more relaxed and happy with such situations. In this paper, he has discussed the issues regarding predictability in life and its impact on elderly people. The author conducted an experiment in which elderly people were selected randomly, and they were exposed to different events and situations.

Since, they do not have much control over events and circumstances in family affairs when they get old. At this age, when they are already deprived of happiness and satisfaction in their lives, they tend to get more upset with such situations. Hence predictability and control in their lives is very important, otherwise mentally they would stay ill due to these circumstances and events (Sherman, 2005). The author says that when they do not get a control in their lives, they find it difficult to cope it with the issue and feel depressed. Depression is a big problem in the elderly. It is a creeping disease, as the body become weak, sick and lonely. When people grow old, they do not receive sufficient support from family, friends, society, which then sneaks into depression.
