ABSTRACT

Recycling is the practice in which the waste materials are being collected and transformed into new products. This process is helpful in protecting the non renewable natural resources as it helps in preventing the waste of those materials which are useful. It is the process that consists of technique which helps producing new materials from the wastes and used material. The aim of this research is to find out the how universities are implementing and reviewing their recycling policies. In this research study three approaches are used: interview techniques, questionnaire and secondary data collection. The participant for interview phase were 10 managers from various universities across UK and the participants for survey phase were 100 students from various universities across UK. The results show that the UK university recycling policies are very effective. However, communication of the recycling programmes should be increased to involve more number of staff, faculty and students, which can help in achieving the universities' part of environmental target set by the government.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Background of the research

Recycling is the practice in which the waste materials are being collected and transformed into new products. This process is helpful in protecting the non renewable natural resources as it helps in preventing the waste of those materials which are useful. It is the process that consists of technique which helps producing new materials from the wastes and used material (Strange & Bayley, 2008). The purpose of recycling is to reduce the potential environmental pollution and save the non renewable materials. There are many different reasons and advantages of recycling old materials to turn into new, similar products some of them are following: According to the research following are the types of recycling:
